Description
There is a lot of info packed into this little booklet, all 28 pages of it, on parchment-colored stiff paper measuring just 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches. Captain Kathryn Budde-Jones originally copyrighted her book in 1989, this issue being her third edition printed in 2004. We're told about the minting procedures creating the crudely shaped Pieces of Eight pirates hoarded so fervently. Spanish coin denominations are discussed, histories of shields on coins, along with the reigns of Spanish Monarchs. What I particularly enjoy are her diagrams showing us what all the symbols stand for on treasure coins. Back in the day, buying and selling treasure coins in Key West, I very often turned to this book to enlighten myself and or a potential customer. seeing faint markings on shipwrecked crudely created silver coins, comparing to the clear sketches was most helpful. seeing The Great Shield of Hapsburg as it was designed, seldom fully visible on coins, very helpful. KT's sketches of the Spanish Coats of Arms is worth the price alone.Participating in archaeological recovery of the

since 1981, I'd say the lady knows her stuff. Lucky us she shared much of that knowledge in print. Though hard to read, the map of where treasure was found in The Keys, scattered along the ocean bed for miles, is interesting. This booklet may have been out there for years yet is still a worthy one to have for researching treasure coins.
