    Description

RARE SCARCE VINTAGE 1950'S LEONARD'S 70" ALUMINUM WATER SKIS. The entire ski body is made of aluminum with "sealed" air pockets for floatation. Normal 1950's bindings were used and the fins were made of wood.  Condition is "Used".  You are not likely to find another set of these for your collection or display!
Leonard's Metal Inc. on September 15, 1958 introduced aluminum water skis with built-in air pockets. The manufacturer said the skis were rust and leak-proof and that each ski weighs about two pounds less than conventional skis of wood.   Located in St. Charles, Missouri, Leonard's Metal Inc. specialized in manufacturing aircraft components. Today they are known as LMI AEROSPACE.
I think the only other company to make an aluminum water ski was AlumaCraft Boats
and their "Lightfoot" was only produced in 1958 & 1959.  These are also difficult to find.
